Red and blue light shone above us, sirens were heard as we bent under the bridge. How did we get like this? How did I become like this? Sometimes I wonder what would be different if I hadn't become the Bonnie to his Clyde. _It happens once every year. When the heaviest downpour occured. In a town that could be considered a desert I should have been grateful for the rain, but my gloomy job made me think otherwise. Don't get me wrong the income was great, good enough to pay my mother's debts, with change left over but the people I felt with on a daily basis made me hate it. When it rained this heavy, only a handful of customers came to the diner. A teenager, who looked around my age, entered. He emitted bad news once you saw the brown bag he held tightly in his hand. He had a dashing smile as he walked over to the register where I was. "A vanilla milkshake please." He spoke and the smile never left his face. "Anything else?" "Your number on the side. And I'd like to take you out for a drink if you don't mind." "Apologies, but unfortunately what you're asking for doesn't come on our menu. However your total is 3.63" "Oh come on," he sighed. "A pretty thing like you deserves to be treated like a queen." He spoke as he reached into his bag for what I thought was a wallet. I blushed at the words for some reason beyond me. He took a five dollar bill and handed it to me but paused midway once I had opened the register. I hadn't realized he withdrew another bag from the already large sized bag he placed on the counter. "Actually I think I have the change," he said, retrieving it. His eyes glanced into the register and then looked at the people around us. I closed my eyes, resting my head in my palm while I waited. My eyes widened with horror when I heard the sound of gunfire. The sound of glass breaking was heard right after. "Just fill the bag with cash and I'll be on my way." He tossed the large back at me. A small revolver was in his hands, was this the same man she was speaking with earlier? Of course it was because the same smile was glued to his face. The workers and people all together screamed. I was too shocked to do so, my hands only trembled as I placed bills in his bag. He took the bag from my trembling hand and was ready to leave but looked back at me. "If you come with me we'll be free for life." I looked behind to see if it was really me he was talking to. "If y-yo-you want her take her just don't hurt anyone please." One of my coworker's yelled, stumbling over their own words. Looking back in disbelief that the person was quick to think of such a response. After that outburst I didn't even question the thing on my left shoulder and threw the apron off. "I'll be Bonnie and you'll be my Clyde." I smiled back. _ "They caught onto us quick huh?" He chuckled. "Sure did." I laughed back
